Rasika Shekar is an internationally acclaimed singer, flautist, and composer.
An alumni and scholarship recipient of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, her music education began at the age of seven and continues to be moulded by her gurus. Rasika’s music is an amalgam of decades of learning and expertise in a multitude of genres that create a soundscape so unique, that it shines like a crepuscular ray in today’s contemporary music scene. Her distinctive sound as a singer and flautist has led her to collaborate with some of the biggest names internationally like John McLaughlin, Shankar Mahadevan, Guitar Prassana, classical legends like Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Shujaat Ali Khan, and many other well-known personalities in the entertainment industry. Over the years, Rasika has delicately nurtured and crafted her sound that allows her to flow through genres effortlessly.
Rasika’s enduring personality has driven many global collaborations that have unified into a string of cultural landmarks in her career as a musician. Rasika was invited by the Ministry of Culture, Tunisia to be their special guest of honor and judge the Istikhbar Festival of Music. She collaborated with local Tunisian musicians performing to an audience un- heard of Indian music. Another, “Roots and Origins of India to Valencia” brought Indian, Flamenco, and Western Classical music on a single stage in Spain. To her credit, she was also a part of the BANFF Jazz Residency in Canada, curated by world renowned jazz pianist Vijay Iyer.
Within a few years, Rasika’s remarkable career in Indian music industry positioned her as one of the most prominent promising artists in the industry. Famed for her extensive studio and live work with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy worldwide, Rasika has also worked with Papon, Hariharan, Amit Trivedi amongst others under established banners like Dharma Productions and Yash Raj Films. Viral videos of her performance on social media, TedX talks, varied features in print and online mediums, continual appearances on television as a guest on numerous highly acclaimed shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati, MTV Coke Studio, and SaReGaMaPa are only a testament to Rasika’s sensational talent. Rasika was just awarded by Phoenix Marketcity at the “Phoenix Leading Lady 2019” Awards for “Excellence in Performing Arts – Music” among other categories in Business, Sports, Personal Excellence, Social Change, etc. Rasika presently heads her own band, “Rasika Shekar Live” that is a confluence of her diverse musical influences.
Rasika is the daughter – in – law of our Veteran Member Wg Cdr S Harshavardhan.
