Lt Gen (Retd) V R Raghavan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM

Lt Gen (Retd) VR Raghavan PVSM, UYSM, AVSM  retired from Indian Army as Director General Military Operations. He was President, Centre for Security Analysis, Chennai, and Director Delhi Policy Group for over a decade. He was a member of India’s National Security Advisory Board and   a member of the Task Force set up by the Government of India to Review Defence Preparedness. The General was an elected member of the Council of United Services Institution of India and was Council Member, International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London. He was a Commissioner of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission chaired by Dr Hans Blix and later Advisor and Research Consultant to the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament convened by the Governments of Australia and Japan. He was a Visiting Fellow at Centre for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), Stanford University and at the  Henry L Stimson Centre, Washington DC. He has authored books amongst which, the monograph, India’s Need for Strategic Balance; essay on Limited War and Nuclear Escalation in South Asia, the books Infantry in India, and Siachen-Conflict without End are widely known. He has edited more than two dozen books.

He lives in Chennai with an abiding interest in literature, military history and classical music.  He has one of the largest collection of stamps on weapons and warfare.
