Page 61 of 68 1. Over the years Chennai has become a choice city for Veterans to settle down once they finish their arduous tenures in the Indian Armed Forces. With the growth of the City in recent times Veterans are spread out far and wide. 2. As times pass and years role by many Veterans have felt a need for a support group of like minded and like thinking gentry. The birth and growth of the AFVOA can be attributed to this desire for togetherness and brotherhood amongst its members. 3. As is normal Veterans too have problems with life. These problems could be due to ill health or they could be due to financial or legal causes. Whereas legal and financial problems build up slowly certain emergencies due to health are mostly unforeseen and unexpected when they happen. 4. It has been noticed in the past that whenever Veterans turn up to offer succor in emergencies the stricken person is better able to cope with his adverse situation and recover faster, content in the confidence that he is not alone and his comrades are behind him. 5. However, due to the vastness of the City and difficult traffic situations those from afar cannot fetch in time. Hence, a need has been felt for Geographical Core Groups. Geographical Core Groups 6. It is obvious that the fastest assistance is local assistance. Therefore, the aim of Geographical Core Groups is to facilitate quick arrival of help to a person needing it 7. For this purpose the Chennai City has been roughly divided into variuos Geographical Areas. Only the prominent localities in an area have been indicated and it includes the areas around.
