Page 59 of 80 MATTERS AFVOA Our member Lt Col R. Ramachandran, APS, has compiled and edited the book ARMY LEAVE RULES MADE EASY. This is the 4th Edition brought out by the Army Postal Service Association for the benefit of units and individuals. It is very comprehensive and a well laid out easy to understand publication. We congratulate Col Ramachandran for his excellent contribution. Mrs Lalitha Mohandas, our sought after stentorian voiced tambola announcer, and ever willing and energetic lady for event management has been doing silent work as a volunteer for the Kalaiselvi Karunalaya Social welfare Society, which has established the Rajnikanth Old Age Home to accommodate the desperate homeless older people at Selaiyur near Tambaram. Charitable trusts are run on liberal donations to promote their activities and help the needy. The Trust will be able to further the good work if we offer our support and encouragement. The Army School, Chennai invited our member, Col A.Krishnaswami, to address the children and motivate them to join the Armed Forces. This was on 31 Aug 2012. Apart from the students, few parents also attended the hour long talk and presentation. It was an interactive session and the audience exhibited a lot of enthusiasm. AFVOA is planning more interaction with educational institutions in conjunction with the local NCC Directorate . MATTERS MILITARY Lt Gen Subroto Mitra, SM, VSM, GOC HQ ATNK&K Area has been posted out and is taking charge of HQ Delhi Area . NEWSMAKERS Heartiest congrats to Col KS Chakravarthi on his election as Chairman of the Institution of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineers, Chennai Centre. This is indeed a great honour and reflects the service that he has rendered to the Organisation. We wish him all the best in taking IETE Chennai to greater heights. It was a pleasant surprise for those of us who switched on the TV "Podhigai" channel on 15 August to see the live programme of the Independence Day celebrations of the Tamil Nadu State government. During the award presentation ceremony, we heard the announcement regarding the recognition of the selfless and devoted social service being rendered by Mrs Jaya Krishnaswami, our renowned lady member. She was presented with a State Award and warmly greeted by the CM, Ms J Jayalalitha on the ramparts of the Fort St George, Chennai, much to the thundering applause of the gathering. We in the AFVOA are aware of the total commitment of Mrs Jaya towards the Madhuram Narayanan Charitable Trust that she is managing for exceptional children. Earlier in one of the meetings, she made a flawless and lucid power point
