Page 35 of 80 After the tombola, Col TN Raman, Secretary announced that the scion of Maharaja Caterers, Shri. Vijay, died in a freak accident a few days ago. A manja thread drifting just over the road caught Vijay at the neck when he was riding his scooter. The thread cut his throat and the young man died in a hospital leaving behind a young widow and two small children, one 7 months and the other 3 years old. Col TN Raman, Secretary, requested donations in cash for the immediate relief of the family. Spontaneous donations resulted in a collection of Rs 8650 in cash. One of our members who had his cheque book handy in order to pay his annual subscription, promptly wrote out a cheque in favour of the widow, Aneetha Kumari for Rs. 50,000. The cash and the cheque were handed over to Shri Dilip, brother of the deceased and our catering contractor by the President. This gesture was loudly appreciated. Ms Rajan suggested that we go a step further and look into the necessary support needed to take care of the education of the children, The President assured Ms Rajan that the needful will be done. The family was contacted both in regard to the employment of the widow and sponsoring the education of the children. Ms Jayanthi Balachandran, wife of Maj S Balachandran, our founder Secretary, has kindly agreed to consider Srimathi Aneetha for employment in her school. We are following up with the family. The President exhorted the members to get more involved in the activities of the AFVOA. He requested that the management of the AFVOA may not be left to the office bearers. More volunteering activity in planning and organizing functions will be more than welcome. He also requested the members to contribute to the Newsletter. Col RS Varadan, Treasurer touched upon the finances of the Association. He requested members to pay their subscriptions. He expressed a need to increase the subscriptions if we are to be able to plan bigger and better activities for the members. An obituary reference was made in respect of Cmde TN Krishnaswamy, our former President, who passed away in Canada a few months ago. Two minutes silence was observed. The proceedings concluded with lunch being served. MATTERS AFVOA Col TN Raman (Retd) resigned from the post of Secretary AFVOA on health grounds. He has been relieved on his return from outstation wef 30 Jun 2012. We thank him for his services over the last one year and wish him good health in the future.
