They just make the best of every thing. Meeting Gone By The August meetings of the AFVOA have always been gala events. We have been celebrating like Raising Days are observed in our Units. There is Bonhomie, and much greeting in the typical Punjabi style- The JAPP I or the affectionate embracing among the founder members. The programme includes the anniversary cake cutting, reminiscing the earlier days of our association with a talk by the President on Down the Memory Lane, a special entertainment programme that is followed by a sumptuous dinner. We invite a few serving Officers of the station for interaction. Our meeting on Sunday 28 Aug 2011 was memorable for more than one count. It was our Raising day celebration and also the Installation Day for “Team Chari” to assume charge as the 14 th Committee of the AFVOA. The programme was therefore structured to suitably celebrate the occasion. History was created by the AFVOA members to elect and position a Lady member as the First Vice President, Brig Mrs K MuthuLaxmy. An honour the lady richly deserves and has earned the position by her devotion, sincerity and unstinted cooperation in the successful conduct of the activities of the association for over a decade. Our meeting commenced bang at 6 PM with the sale of tickets for the crowd pulling event- Tambola. Brig Subby and Mrs Lalitha Mohandas were at their best. In spite of the time constraint they were successful in conducting two houses of the game, by 6.45 pm. We did hear some grumbling for not carrying on for another house !! At the end of the game, a few lucky ones had heavier pockets and the not so lucky did’nt crib much. The Snow ball amount of Rs2200/-in 52 counts is still rolling. Better luck next time. Congrats to the following for their winning this time. Maj. KA Verghese, Brig SP Balachandran, Mrs. Jaya Krishnaswami, Usha Swaminathan, Shobita Ravindran, Dr. Vaidehi, Lakshmi Pattabhiraman and Col MJ Reddy. The next event was the installation and introduction of “Team Chari.” This was taken on by Col. A. Krishnaswami, who, after the formal introduction, wished the new team a very happy and challenging tenure, on behalf of all the members and the ladies of AFVOA. He also wished Col TN Raman a very speedy recovery as he was not able to attend due his indisposition. The new committee thereafter came into action and the President Maj Gen CT Chari gave out his opening address to the members on the aspirations of his team to further foster the aims and objectives of the association and sought the cooperation of all in this endeavour. He assured that his teamwould strive tomeet the challenges ahead with a sense of humility and service to the veterans. Col RS Varadan, the treasurer took on the additional duty of the Secretary and conducted the routineprocedures of introductionof newmembers, obituary referencesand announcements.
