Be quick in action but cautious in speech. Editorial Our Newsletter No 4 of 2011 evoked a few suggestions from the members. As we progress, we shall try and incorporate them to the extent possible. We invite your suggestions. It is an indicator to gauge the readership and know your views and requirements. We would restrain from publishing the Kudos received and focus on improvements to gain greater visibility by our progressive activities From inception, the AFVOA has been involved in carrying out social responsibilities in a variety of fields. Our members had involved themselves in the field of Education, by joining the Times Of India initiative of Teach India, partaken in uplifting the needs of the weak and destitute by generous contributions, social work by our ladies towards raising funds for the elderly in the Old age homes, coaching classes for the volunteers wanting to join the Armed Forces and train the youth in Spoken English. The list is much more. As an organized association, the AFVOA could perhaps gain greater name and recognition if we, as a group, volunteer to do these and some more under our banner and not individually. A thought provoking article on this aspect is included in the newsletter. Members are requested to offer their views on the proposals made by our President. Since our last meeting on Sunday28th August, We had a busy schedule with a host of events inSeptember andOctober. RaisingDays, Religious functions, Cricket Matches, Electionsand the Diwali celebrations kept us busy and committed. Month of November is comparatively easier as we have only the Corps of Engineers Day on 18 Nov. December however would be very busywith themusic/dance festivals and the holidays for Christmas and theNewYear. We as an Association have to face a “ground reality”. Our bi monthly meetings, annual picnic, and other activities like wreath laying in the War Memorial and so on, requires the active support of the local formation. We have all along enjoyed their cooperation, benevolence and hospitality. In view of our increased membership strength, the load on formation has certainly increased. We have been projecting the day choice for holding the meetings as Sundays to suit to our convenience for over a decade now. We are aware that normally, Sunday is the day of rest to our troops and theyare the ones todeliver our large administrative requirements. We have been conveyed the decision by the staff officer that with immediate effect, “any day other than Sunday/a holiday” can be chosen by us to hold our bimonthly meets. We feel that we must adjust and abide by the requirement conveyed to us. The venue too has been changed for carrying out repair works in the old location. We hope that the newly chosen venue, will be allotted to us as a permanent arrangement. As veterans, we are flexible, and We understand the problems. Let us move on and continue to enjoy the benevolence of the formation. Our Lady Vice President is indeed happy to get all the cooperation from the spirited lady members, with their participation in the conduct of Tambola, Cake Cutting and the group/solo
