AFVOA Newletters of Year 2011
Page 19 of 44 Beyond an iota of doubt the elections were free and fair. One indication of this is the large voter turn out particularly the women voters. There were ofcourse certain cases of giving cash for votes. But political pundits feel these will not affect the will of the people to elect the type of leaders they want. Surely there are many who say that our electoral rules need revision. The elections to the House of the People and Legislatures must be held simultaneously, some say. The dates for these elections should be fixed by law as in other countries, they say. Some want the tenure of politicians to be fixed. There are those who believe that much of the evil in our electoral system stems from the lopsided rules pertaining to election symbols. One cannot glibly brush aside these objections. Surely the future may see improvements brought in these and other aspects. All the same there is absolutely no doubt that the Election Commission has done a fabulous job. Every Indian ought to be proud of the fact they have just concluded an election which will be considered as one of the fairest and freest in the world. Election Officials! We give you a standing ovation!! All this talk of elections does bring our thoughts nearer home. We too are going to go into election mode. With the coming of the Annual General Meeting, the tenure of the present Executive Committee would come to an end. We have to elect a President, a Vice President, a Secretary and a Treasurer. Nomination forms for the same are attached herewith. During the AGM scheduled for Sunday, 19 Jun 2011 elections will be held to choose our members for the Executive Committee. Convening order and Nomination Forms are enclosed. See you all on 19 Jun 2011. At this juncture, I must say that the last four years have been an enriching period in my life. Working for our Association has been truly satisfying. I wish the Association the very best and in the years to come I have no doubt that our Association will grow from Strength to Strength. I wish to express my deep gratitude to all our members for the cooperation extended to the Executive Committee. I wish you all Good Health and Long Life.
