From the Editorial Team YOU CAN’T BE A BIT DEMOCRATIC ANY MORE THAN YOU CAN BE A BIT PREGNANT You are either democratic or you are not. From that point of view our great nation has proved its democratic credentials without doubt. During the months of April and May Puducherry, Kerala, Assam, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal got into election mode. What a massive exercise in universal suffrage. Crores of voters exercised their options to choose less than a thousand legislators in all out of thousands of candidates. And what was admirable was the clockwork precision with which the polls were conducted. The Officers of the Election Commission and the Revenue officials of the state who worked night and day to make sure every thing went right deserve our appreciations. Infact they have applied a healthy salve to our national conscience which was sorely hurt by some of the men who were in charge of the Common Wealth Games and by others were responsible for apportioning the electronic spectrum for usage by ‘second generation’ gadgets.
