Frank A Clark STATION EVENTS Memorial Service to Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw 1. On Saturday, 05 Jul 2008 a Memorial Service for the Late Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw was held at the Auditorium of Officers Training Academy, Chennai. 2. The event was conducted with all befitting solemnity in the presence of His Excellency Shri Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu and other dignitaries. A large number of veterans attended the event. 3. Veterans who had served with the dear departed Field Marshal or had been close to him during his sojourn on this earth were asked to share their memories with the memorialists. Accordingly Gen S Padmanabahan, Former Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen C Sundara Rao, Patron AFVOA, Maj Gen A Bala Subrahmanian, President AFVOA and Col A Krishnaswamy who earned a VrC in the 1971 Operations recounted their memories of interaction with the Great Sam Bahadur. On 06 July 2008 history was made in Chennai when for the first time in the existence of the City of Chennai the Veterans organized and took part in a successful MARCH FOR JUSTICE. It is matter of great pride that officers, ladies and men took part in this event in such large numbers with so much enthusiasm. Members of the AFVOA gave support to the event by turning up in full strength. 5. By this singular event organized by the Chennai Branch of the Indian Ex-Servicemen’s Movement, Veterans have demonstrated our full and unshakeable loyalty to our country and our Armed Forces. At the same time we have been able to highlight the amount of depredation that has been caused by the self serving nature of the Indian Administrative Service to the country by interfering into the affairs of the Armed Forces and to the Community of Veterans. It thus was also a March for awareness. To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act.
