Page 4 of 56 3. First and foremost we would want a Defence Services Officers Institute (DSOI) in Chennai. This DSOI located on 5-acres in Pallavaram could comprise a futuristic building with 12 guest rooms and facilities for moral, mental and physical well being and development. This would need looking into. Needless to say that every other military station in our country has a DSOI. Even if it weren’t so we would still enjoy having a DSOI of our own which we will proudly leave for the generations yet unborn. 4. In the IT front, with leaps and bounds so great and with speeds unprecedented in history Chennai has emerged as the IT capital of our country. But yet, it is a fact that in this field we have followed avenues marked out by developed countries and continue with work designed to fulfill their needs as also the local versions of their models. It is time we set about to search for and research for our own paths into the future. We would therefore want a Defence Services Hemeleum Institute in Chennai researching into the farthest frontiers of Information Technology (IT) as it would be in, say 2050. 5. Then, in the field of education we would want another Sainik School at Kodaikanal. We would also want an Army Public (Boarding) School at Vellore and a Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC South) at Yercaud or Theni. 6. Wouldn’t it be nice if in 2020 you sat in your Individual Flying Machine (Bochar, if you will) and press a button marked HOME, and a power up there guided you on the shortest and safest route to your residence? It would be the responsibility of the Indian Air Force Scientific Corps to conceptualize, build and put into place the whole system. So we would want a Bochar Institute at Salem. 7. For the Indian Navy we would want an Under Ocean Institute at Tuticorin which would look into activities under the ocean bed. Mining and exploitation of natural resources there could be an activity. But more important could be to create sub-sea roads, manufacturing facilities and human settlements. 8. At Coimbatore we would want to see the coming up of the Army Energy Institute. Imagine loading just a projectile into the chamber of rifle. Now if a device in the butt of the rifle could combine naturally available hydrogen and oxygen and produce the required energy to propel the projectile forward weaponry would be a much simpler matter. There are a myriad ways to derive this energy and another myriad more uses for such cost effective energy. The Energy Institute would look into these aspects. 9. And we would dearly like to have a Sainik Samachar TV channel. Our early military leaders, realizing that important motivational advantage could be derived from highlighting our activities to others in uniform and to the civilian public started the Sainik Samachar Magazine. But alas, we have not kept pace with the growth in media technology. Logically, in the 1960’s we should have started a Sainik Samachar Radio Station and in the 1980’s we should have started a TV Channel. Perhaps now is the time and perhaps this would be the much needed adjunct to attract the best among the young blood into the services. 10. Whereas all along we have talked about creating new organizations we also need to look at better utilization of existing resources. Our Services Selection Boards have thus far done us proud in selecting the best among the youth for the Defence Forces. But among those not so selected there could be material suitable for say the Para Military Forces or for the Police Forces. Such young men could be selected, a few of them trained along with out Cadets and then sent on to their cadres. This would help in the long run in civil military understanding and cooperation. 11. This could be our wish list. Our readers could have even more worthy ideas for our wish list. They need to be considered with zeal and passion and attempts should be made to bring them to fruition.
