The General Officer gave a very interesting talk about the latest thinking in the Army on various aspects. With his vast experience and wide vision he gave all present a glimpse of what was to come in various arms and services and also the latest on welfare measures being considered for the serving and the retired personnel. He made interesting observations on DSOIs and old age homes and their functioning. 20. All present enjoyed the lively talk and stood to applaud the speaker. A Forward looking man is one who thinks ahead of his time and encourages doing things never tried before. LaFontaine Raising Day Commemoration and Cake Cutting 21. Col A Krishnaswamy, VrC, VSM & Bar gave a very interesting speech about the origins and growth of the AFVOA. As he took us down the memory lane he recounted how seven officers who frequently met each other during the morning walks almost 13 years ago agreed to start a retired officers associations which today has grown to be the AFVOA. 22. He recalled the services of important members and office bearers during the various milestones in the life of the AFVOA. He called to the front those who had played an important role with their yeomen service to receive the appreciations of the audience. 23. The culmination of the event was the cake cutting by Mrs. Kochekkan and distribution of cakes to the audience. I am yet to hear of a man complain about combining marriage and a successful career. (b) Major Dinesh Raghu Raman, JAT, laid down his life fighting miltants in Kashmir on 03 Oct 2007. (c) Lt Col BA Dandapani (age 73 yrs) passed away at Mumbai on 16 Oct 2007. (d) Maj Y Devasahayam, (age 84 yrs) passed away at Pallavaram on 22 Oct 2007. (e) Wg Cdr Balasubramanian passed away at Anna Nagar on 24 Oct 2007. All members of the AFVOA convey their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the soul of the dear departed to rest in peace.
