After the initial exchange of pleasantries the Secretary requested to say a few words before handing over the customary souvenir to the Stn Cdr for display in the Officers’ Mess. The President, on behalf of all the members expressed his gratitude to the Stn Cdr and all Officers for their kind invitation. He stated that the warmth and feeling of camaraderie displayed was commendable and hoped that it would continue in the days to come. He later handed over the souvenir (a rosewood inlay work depicting a chivalrous king on elephant back in procession) to the Stn Cdr. Air Cmde MS Ahluwalia thanked the President and all members of AFVOA for their kind and thoughtful gesture. The veterans after lunch bid good bye to all the hosts and left for Chennai. A few of them, however, visited the AFWWA outlet. Decommissioning of INS MITHUN. INS MITHUN, after rendering yeomen service for about two decades to the Nation was decommissioned on 30 Mar 2007. In this connection a limited number of members of AFVOA were invited for Cocktails at the Naval Officers’ Mess on the 29 Mar 2007 and also for the official decommissioning ceremony on 30 Mar 2007 at the Port of Chennai. Military World Games. Members may be aware that the 4 th Military World Games is being held at Hyderabad in Oct 2007. In order to mark 200 days before the event, a Run was organized by HQ ATNK&K Area on 07 Apr 2007. The run commenced from the Lighthouse area of the Marina under various categories depending on the age groups. The participants included children from Schools & Colleges, NCC, serving military personnel and Veterans. The Veterans consisted of mainly members of AFVOA and their spouses, 19 in all. The run terminated at the Lady Wellington Teachers’ Training College campus. The prize winners were, Lt Col CR Sundar – I Prize (Rs. 10,000/-), Capt Sasidharan – II Prize ( VIP suitcase) and Capt I Balaratna Singh – III Prize (gift pack). There was a thunderous applause when Lt KA Rajagopalan, IPS was asked to come and collect a special consolation Prize for being the oldest runner (84 years) in the event. Matters Social Wedding Bells. Cdr & Mrs SR Prasad celebrated the wedding of their son, Mr. Arun Prasad with Miss. Aishwarya on 26 Feb 2007. The event was attended by a large number of friends and relations. AFVOA compliments the parents and wishes the newly married couple a long and happy married life. Obituary.
