Subramanian exhorted that the approach to the aspect of the Service Officers’ community seeking re-employment opportunities should be firmly based on the reality that the corporate world prefers our services more and not vice versa and the common feeling that the retired Service Officer hankers for a corporate job. 5. The Armed Forces is a unique organization. It has defined the term ‘loss’ in its financial regulations and has also qualified that an “honest error of judgment” should not be construed as a ‘loss.’ During our entire service career we perform in such an environment thereby acquire the courage as well as the liberty in taking decisions without the fear of going wrong. In other words, the aspect of taking ‘risks’ that is essential in any corporate business activity is perhaps a second nature for the Service Officer. There can be no question of inactivity on the part of the Service Officer if he is entrusted with a responsibility. Maturity in decision making comes with long years of experience in service life which involves dealing with men, material and very expensive items like tanks, ships and aircrafts, costing crores of rupees. It is precisely this quality amongst others, which the high ranking corporate leadership is looking for in their process of selection of a Service Officer for their organizations. We should therefore be well prepared to meet the expectations of the employers. 6. He sounded a note of caution that a Service Officer during his active years of service is provided with an incomparable security by the system and therefore a sense of well being and camaraderie always prevails. In the corporate scene this has to be correctly balanced lest one feels diffident at suddenly facing the challenges of non availability of the usual service comforts and perks that is totally absent during the post retirement period. 7.
