Please see details at Para of this Newsletter. “Two things control man’s character: Strength and Pity.” - Swami Vivekanand From The Editorial Team Dear Veterans, 1. “August”, the eighth month of the calendar year, named after the Roman Emperor, Augustus, is also described in the Oxford/Chambers dictionaries as under:- Dignified… Exalted…Grand… Imposing… Impressive…Majestic… Noble… Stately… Sublime…Venerable…in the adjective form. 2. To us, the members of AFVOA, it reminds us of our very first meeting on Sunday, the 7 th Aug 1994 in the green lawns of the Youth Hostel. It was here on that day that a group of 20 veterans and their wives met to greet each other and resolved to form the Ex Service Officers’ Association (EXSOA). We renamed ourselves as AFVOA in the year 2000. Time has passed without a pause and we celebrated our twelfth raising day on the green lawns of the Palm Gove Institute on 6 th Aug 2006. Purely in terms of our new meeting venue and our member strength of over 250, it is indeed a quantum jump. Our laudable aims, activities and achievements have enhanced our standing and recognition. Let us continue our good work and add feathers in the coming years. 3. The “Service Officer” is a sought after personality for the fast emerging corporate sector. So feels Col RI Subramanian, one of our distinguished member achievers. He is the Secretary General of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has dealt with the
