It may be recalled that Wg Cdr Ravi Mani was admitted in the MH, Chennai and was treated successfully for a serious intestinal problem by the Doctors and Staff. The Officer was highly appreciative of the positive attitude displayed during his entire stay at the MH. As a token of goodwill and gratitude he donated two Suction Apparatus to the hospital. The AFVOA lauds this magnanimous gesture on the part of the Officer and wishes him a long, healthy and prosperous life. 46. Annual Audit. The Annual Audit of AFVOA Accounts by the Chartered Accountant for year 2005-06 has been completed without any observation. The credit entirely goes to the untiring efforts of the Treasurer, Brig NB Subramanian. 47. Amendments to Hello Veterans 2004. Details of amendments required to be made to “Hello Veterans – 2004” are given at ‘Annexure 2.’ 48. Core Groups. The Executive Committee will be shortly introducing a welfare system in the form of “Core Groups” ( a helpline ) for implementation by all the Members of AFVOA. A Sub-Committee under the leadership of Maj Gen R Karthikeyan is working on this project assisted by few other members. 49. The concept of “Core Groups” will be a part of ‘Suryasthaman’ wherein a mutually and intimately interested set of people named by the deceased Officer takes charge to assist the family in ensuring all the entitlements reach in time from various sources. 50. In order to enable the Executive Committee to formulate the idea, certain data will be required from each and every Member. Members are therefore requested to go through a brief on the subject given below and provide the inputs at the earliest in the Format attached at Annexure 3. AFVOA CORE GROUPS “A Self Support Initiative” “Heyam dhukham anagatham” “To be forewarned is to be forearmed” Introduction 51. Retirement is an immediate reality and demise is the grand adventure, which is reserved for the last! Everyone is aware about the above two realities; but yet one always has a feeling that it happens to others and never to one’s self! Hence, the many bizarre and tragic stories one hears about heroes passing away unsung and unheard. We at the AFVOA, have been deliberating on this for quiet some time now and you are already aware of our project to publish a handbook and an aide memoire that will help us to be better prepared to face the future with peace of mind and assurance.
