She came in for special mention at the YWCA International Fair in Washington in 1971 when she played a key role in presenting India before the audience. After her husband’s retirement, she has involved heself actively in all the welfare activities of the Probus Club of Chennai. They are indeed a model couple….” “……As I was leaving Major General Aban Naidu after completing my interview with him, I asked myself what are the qualities that enabled him to distinguish himself as a great officer in the Indian Army for nearly 37 years? Bang came the answer and I could see in him and on his face the shining qualities of valour, a spirit of selfless sacrifice, fairness and honesty, discipline and integrity, dogged determination, a cosmopolitan attitude marked by non-discrimination among individuals regardless of their status, a spirit of comradeship and brotherhood and above all fidelity, honour and courage. What is special about him is that he never sought sensational effects or courted popularity. Inflexible, rigorously pedantic in his assertion of the professional point of view, yet he always treated the Civil Power with respect and loyalty. (a) Col & Mrs D Subramanian celebrated the wedding of their daughter Miss Ahalya with Mr. Madhukar, son of Col & Mrs SK Bose on 15 Apr 2006. (b) Lt Col & Mrs TG Venkatesh celebrated the wedding of their daughter Miss Lakshmi with Mr. Ramakrishnan on 09 Apr 2006. The weddings were well attended by friends and relatives. The AFVOA congratulates the newly weds and wishes them a very happy married life. 42. Obituary. The AFVOA regrets the passing away of the following Officers:- (a) Wg Cdr R Raghavan - 21 Apr 2006. (b) Col R Badrinarayanan - 27 Apr 2006. (c) Capt TK Swaminathan - 30 Apr 2006. (d) Lt KT Verghese, IN - 06 May 2006. All members of AFVOA convey their sympathies to the bereaved family members. May the departed souls rest in peace. Matters Financial 43. Exemption of Property Tax. A delegation from the AFVOA comprising of Maj Gen C Govindaswamy, Maj Gen R Karthikeyan, AVM V Krishnaswamy, VSM, Air Cmde S Jayarajan, AVSM, VSM and Col A Krishnaswami, VrC, VSM** met the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, Sri R Narayanan and submitted a Statement of Case for exempting all Ex- Servicemen of Tamil Nadu from payment of Property tax. The Chief Secretary has stated that the case would be given due consideration and has asked the Director, Dept of Ex-Servicemen Welfare to provide him all the details regarding welfare measures adopted by other States vis- à-vis Tamil Nadu. “If you lend some money to a friend and never see that person again, the loan was worth it.” - Unknown
