Page 11 of 77 This game was conceived and prepared at short notice using the computer and printer by Mrs. Chitkala Govindaswamy. It was intellectual in nature and evoked a lot of interest as the contestants had to identify the persons in the photographic images to events and places of the year 2005, the year just gone by. Time schedules were strict and as such not many could complete the game correctly. The game reminded members that they should become more knowledgeable and well informed about current events. (d) Advertisement Recognition by Mrs. Usha Subramanian(in absentia) Conducted by Mrs Vatsala Subramanian and Mrs Sulochana Krishnaswami This game was interesting and one had to really scratch one’s memory to link and identify the advertisement with the product it depicted. Tremendous effort was involved in preparing the event and Mrs Subramanian unfortunately could not be present due to her indisposition. We wish and pray that she would be able to attend and conduct many more games in our future picnics. (e) Balloon race by Mrs. Shyamala Sukumar & Miss. Shilpa Sukumar This was the only outdoor game that was planned and conducted during the picnic. It involved a pair of competitors holding the balloon between their necks and running the prescribed distance without dropping the balloon. It evoked laughter, cheer and happiness creating an appetite for the sumptuous spread. 37. As an interlude the Committee had programmed to introduce a very talented Member Sqn Ldr CK Unni Nair. What happened during the event was indeed memorable. ‘Unni’, with his scintillating voice took the entire audience down memory lane by singing numbers like “Paattu Paada Vaa” from the film “Then Nilavu” which enabled us to reminisce about the nostalgic past. Lt Col M Narayanan who is generally in the background rose to the occasion and joined him in the singing. This prompted the entire audience to sing the song in chorus. It certainly was the most lively event and drew a thunderous applause. The AFVOA is fortunate to have this young talent amidst us. 38. The sumptuous lunch was appreciated by all Members for its quality, variety, proper layout and efficient distribution. Some Members stole “40 winks” and were seen spread out in the green lawns. Good food lulls you to sleep also! 39. The Members reassembled for Tambola, which was unique, as it was a free tambola with lots of gifts as prizes for winners. This was ably conducted by Mrs. Lalitha Mohandas. The prize won were appreciated by the winners. 40. Lucky Dip was a new introduction by this Committee. To attract larger attendance, the Committee decided that Members attending the picnic will be entitled to participate in the event by dropping their names & number-slips attached to the Newsletter, into a box Two hampers were specially prepared for the lucky winners of this event. Two young children were called from the audience to pick out the names. The winners were Lt Col R Thiruvengadam, and Lt Col R Rajkumar. 41. The prize distribution was very efficiently organized and the prizes were aesthetically packed. Kudos to our lady volunteers - Mrs. Vatsala Balasubramanian, Mrs. Sulochana Krishnaswami and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Shanti Ananth Krishnan. 42. Mrs. Chitkala Govindaswamy kindly consented to distribute the prizes to the winners.
