Muthiah, MBE, a renowned historian, journalist and social crusader on preservation of our heritage, culture and social fabric enthralled the audience by his very informative talk on the role played by the Armed Forces of the British Empire in shaping many of the important institutions that are a pride of our Nation even today. More about his talk in the later paragraphs. Tambola 9. The organizers were ready for the sale of tickets for the first house by 1715 hours – the time scheduled for the game to start. As we had an important guest to talk to us later in the day, the proceedings were held on the Hamsadhwani stage side. And at 1700 hours, the sun was shining in all its fury on the stage, with the result the announcer was being sun burnt – but then as only a couple of members had turned up, the sale could not commence for another half hour when the numbers increased. In order to ensure that we did not eat into the time of the guest, only one game of Tambola was played. The aim of commencing early is to give more time for interactions amongst members, which is not attained as we are no more punctual as we were when we were in uniform. Introduction of new Members 10. The Association was very happy to receive as members the following:- a) Brig CRS Rajaram of the Grenadiers and his wife Smt. Kalyani Rajaram. b) Cmde SM Sundaram, AVSM. Smt. Sundaram was pre-occupied with their grandchildren and hence was unable to attend. c) Cdr S Vijayaraghavan. We missed the company of Smt. Vijayaraghavan who had some pressing commitment. Remembrance 11. The AFVOA deeply mourns the demise of the following erstwhile colleagues:- a) Air Cmde NV Krishnaswamy VSM b) Major JL Ratan, Corps of Signals c) Mrs. Venkatadri, wife of Lt Col LA Venkatadri, our revered octogenarian member. 12. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Vijaya Krishnaswamy, Mrs. Devi Ratan and Lt Col LA Venkatadri and their bereaved family members. 13. The members then rose and paid their homage by observing a minute’s silence as a mark of respect to the departed. Points from the Secretary 14. The newly elected Secretary was at his best performance. The confidence, assertiveness and persuasive appeal to the members were highlighted by his very subtle and precise references to the points, that are faced by the Management Committee. 15. Subscriptions. Members were reminded that many had forgotten to clear the annual subscriptions for quite a while. The Secretary requested all members to co-operate and clear them at the earliest. 16. ECHS. The Secretary stated that the ECHS polyclinic has started functioning at the MH. Lt Col DS Reddy a member of our Association is the newly appointed O i/c of the Polyclinic.
