Page 80 of 153 3. Recently, I had occasion to listen to a talk by Shri Muthuraman, MD of Tata Steel. He talked of the vision of Jamshedji Tata, who not only founded the company, but has also built up Jamshedpur or Tatanagar as it is often called. And that happened because Jamshedji believed that every one of us – including the industry had a social responsibility, which we should fulfill. Shri Muthuraman added that their company would come out with a policy later in the year, when they would possibly do business with only those who had similar commitments to society. 4. At this point in time, it is worth recollecting the excellent talk of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam - the President, who articulated the vision that he had for India in 2020, when he felt we would be a super power in our own right.(this paper has been circulated on the Net to the members by more than one person). One of the points that he touched was that we need to Develop – in our case - on the lines that we have expressed ourselves in our Memorandum and Byelaws. And another which he emphasized was that India must stand up to the world. Because, unless we stood up to the world, no one will respect us. Only strength respects strength. We must be strong as an economic power also. That I believe is also applicable to us also. And if we need to attain the objects that we have mentioned in the Memorandum, we need to do more than the ‘chai pani’ that we are indulging in today. It is worthwhile paraphrasing a sentence of the President’s talk to state, that each member should introspect and answer the question: WHAT EACH ONE OF US CAN DO FOR THE ASSOCIATION RATHER THAN WHAT THE ASSOCIATION CAN DO FOR US. 5. Miserable thoughts make your life miserable. ~ Remez Sasson Meeting Gone By - A Resume Backdrop 7. The meeting on 04 Jul 2004 was eventful in more ways than one. The newly elected Management Committee proved its mettle by having an innovative agenda. Apart from the routine activities like Tambola, introduction of new members, paying respects to our departed colleagues and finally conveying information of general importance, the meeting had a distinguished guest in Shri S. Muthiah, MBE to talk on a topic of interest to all of us.
