The meeting of the 22 nd February, commenced at 1730 hrs, with the first event of the day being the Tombola, run jointly this time by Brig VA Subramanyam and by Col A Krishnaswami. There were two houses that were played, and obviously, the second house saw many more participants, as the Youth Hostel venue got filled up to capacity progressively. While the games were in progress, the reception, manned by Capt (IN) H Balakrishnan and by Lt Col M Narayanan, was kept busy registering participants, saying a cheery hello to all comers, and welcoming new entrants. The Secretary Cd, SR Prasad, was there in spite of a pressing family commitment, and he stuck on long enough to ensure that the meeting got off to a smooth start. In memoriam 7. At 1900 hours, the Tombola having got over, and the gathering at full strength, Col A Krishnaswami requested a minute’s silence in memory of one of our former member - Brig V Parthasarathy, Corps of Signals, who passed away due to the effects of injuries he had suffered in a car accident some time ago which had also the unfortunate consequence of removing Mrs Parthasarathy from our midst. Welcome 8. The inexorable hand of Time witnesses repeated farewells and welcomes, and though it is a constant part of our consciousness, both on the surface and at the deeper levels, it is not easy to accept departures, just as every arrival, birth or beginning fills us with cheer and hope. It was not by design that the next item on the agenda was the welcome of the new members, who included: a) Mrs Lalitha Alexander, wife of the Late Lt Col AO Alexander of the Madras Regiment, who sacrificed his life in the Indo Pak War of 1971, drove down from her home at Egmore to join us.
