Lt Gen AS Jamwal, AVSM, VSM, former GOC, ATNKK & G Area, instituted a number of commendable welfare schemes for the benefit of ex-servicemen (ESM) whilst he was here. Salient features of a few of them are given below for information. Telemedicine through Video Conferencing 18. The aim of this scheme is to provide on line, live medical consultancy and treatment at MHs within this Area with the assistance of Apollo Hospital Chennai. This facility is functional from June 2002. This facility has been extended to all the eight MHs under ATNKK&G Area. Project Sahayog – Assured Decent Last Rites 19. The aim of this project is to ensure that the last rites of all ex-servicemen and their widows is carried out in a dignified and befitting manner. The expenditure will be met by the CSD Canteen to which the ESM/widow was attached. Suvidha sadan – Sainik Guest Houses 20. In order to provide boarding and lodging facilities to servicemen/ESM and their dependents who come for treatment to any one of the nine MHs under ATNKK&G Area, Sainik Guest Houses have been established close to the hospitals. Facilities include furnished dormitory and room accommodation, canteen for meals and snacks, recreational facilities, telephone etc, which will be available at nominal rates. In order to avail of these facilities, the concerned Station Headquarters is to be contacted. These Guest Houses are located at Secunderabad, Golconda, Chennai, Avadi, Wellington, Belgaum, Trivandrum, Cannanore and Panaji. Hostel for Girls 21. Hostels for girls pursuing higher studies at Chennai, Secunderabad and Bangalore have been established. Accommodation for 20 girls is available at each of these stations. As it stands the names of the challenged children of servicemen are included in the PPO and they are eligible for a family pension after the demise of the ex-serviceman. There is an instance wherein a Central Government employee got the name of his mentally challenged son included in his PPO and the son is drawing the family pension, while the concerned Government employee continues to be alive and in good health.
