Page 6 of 52 was eleven months instead of the present ten months subscriptions. Due to the solidarity shown by the Garrison members, the motion which required a three-fourths majority was defeated. *********************** The last time that a news item was inserted in the Hindu, it was a pleasant surprise to get a call from Capt G. Gopalakrishnan Nair, who is part of a similar organization in Trivandrum. He and a few dedicated officers met on 2 nd November 1983, at Ulloor, and decided to start the ‘Ex-Service officers Association – Trivandrum’. They held their first formal meeting on 2 nd February 1984 at the Country Club, Jagathy, Trivandrum. The Association is registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act XII of 1958 with Registration Number as 141/84. They presently have around 150 members. The Association has acquired land and is planning to have its own buildings. They publish an interesting Newsletter, once every half-year. They also have branches in a couple of other towns in Kerala. Additional information about the Association can be obtained from Capt G. Gopalakrishnan Nair, TC No 9/850, ‘Asthullyas’, VJ Lane, Vellayambalam, Trivandrum – 695 010, or the present President Lt Col SVK Nair, who stays at Moon Light, 53, PTP Nagar, Trivandrum - 695 038. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 13. The advent of autumn signals the falling of leaves, which had all along helped the tree to grow and provide shade and protection. The onset of spring ushers in freshly coloured bright leaves. This is the Nature’s way of completing the cycle of replacement of the old by the new. It is hoped that the new members will participate more actively and voluntarily accept responsibility to ensure that the organization remains vibrant. Coming together is the Beginning Keeping together is Progress, Working together is Success. ˜ Unknown The AFVOA Directory project I love meeting people and helping them. ˜ Princess Diana of Wales 14. The first Draft of the proposed Directory has been received from the printer. Under the able guidance of a few committed and dedicated officers, the draft is being corrected and names/numbers being checked/verified. The number of advertisements, sponsors and donations collected till now is meagre, considering that we have almost 2000 veterans in this metropolis. Further, many of these gentlemen/ladies are either running very efficient businesses, or otherwise professionally gainfully employed, or are in positions of such authority that contributions for such a useful project should not have been a constraint. One remembers the adage that little drops of water make a mighty ocean. We are still hoping that even at this late hour, contributions mentioned in earlier communications will be forthcoming from members. Do You Know?
