Page 22 of 52 4. A minutes’ silence was observed in memory of the departed soul of Lt Gen IS Gill, PVSM, MC, who passed away on the 31 st May 2001. Lt Gen Gill, was one of our respected and senior members of the Association. AFVOA assures Mrs Mona Gill all the help that she may need. We hope that she will continue to maintain her links with the AFVOA. We may remind the readers, that Gen Gill, was the Director General Military Operations, during the crucial period of our history namely – the Indo-Pak war of 1971, which resulted in the creation of Bangla Desh. The undying spirit of adventure did not wane even with age. Till recently the General – even at the ripe age of 75 plus - used to carry out the regular para jumping for the benefit of the cadets of OTA – thereby instilling a sense of pride and adventure in the young cadets. He was most helpful to the service families to provide admissions in the schools and colleges managed by the Punjab Association, of which he was a trustee. Our Literary Veterans After all manner of professors have done their best for us, the place we are to get knowledge is in books. Lt Col CR Sundar , Madras Regiment, utilized his literary talents to translate the ‘Thirukural, into English, and come out with an attractive book, titled “Book Divine – Thirukural” published by Om Vignesh publishers. The book has been nominally priced at Rs 110/ per copy. The effort of the officer is commendable and praiseworthy. It deserves your encouragement. 6. Smt Jamuna Krishnanraj , daughter of Sqn Ldr H Ramakrishnan needs to be complimented for her unique production of a booklet, entitled “Shabda Sangam”. The book is a Dictionary of words of common origin in Hindi and Tamil with English Meanings. The book is very reasonably priced at Rs 20.00 only. Copies of the book are available with the officer. Capt Nrutya, AMC, daughter of Brig V A and Smt Jaya Subramanyam married Capt Arvind, AMC on 01 Jul 2001, at Chennai. 8.
