AFOVA Newletters of Year 2000

Page 8 of 22 Chandrasekhar, Vr C at the time of his unfortunate demise at a busy road junction in 1997 is only one of the many instances where it has proved its worth (and he was not even a member). Recently, they were of assistance when Mrs Rajagopal (wife of Wg Cdr S Rajagopal) needed blood. 10 While on worthy causes, all members are “ordered to volunteer” their full support for the directory project. There is an immediate need for us to gather advertisements, sponsors and donations for the project, which requires approximately Rs 2,00,000 for the directory to be published. This amount is and looks big, but if even 50 % of the members of the AFVOA garner ads and sponsors, we will sail through. This is a sincere appeal for all of us to come forward voluntarily to support the project. Please contact Brig VA Subramanyam immediately at 491 7446. Selfishness is that detestable vice which no one will forgive in others, and no one is without in himself Beecher The annual picnic 11. The annual picnic of the AFVOA is justly popular. This year, we will be going to a beach farm house on the New Mahabalipuram Road. The planning for the picnic, scheduled for 10th December, has already begun. Since bookings are difficult to obtain, the guest house has already been tied up and an advance paid. Arrangements have to be made for transport etc. All members are requested to attend, and to pay in their contributions at the rate of Rs 150 per head all inclusive when they come in for the next regular meeting which will be conducted on 24 Sep 2000. Those who wish to send in their cheques by post may mail them to Brig VA Subramanyam or to Col A Krishnaswamy, VrC VSM**. As with all our previous picnics, we assure you that you will enjoy yourself thoroughly. Kindly schedule your activities so that you do not plan on any pressing engagements such as marriages etc that day. The middle years of a marriage are most crucial. In the early years spouses want each other and in the later years they need each other Rebecca Tilly The FIRST AFVOA meeting 12. The first meeting of the AFVOA, on Sunday, the 24 th of September will not be conducted at the usual venue–instead, it will be held at the recreation centre of the Defence Officer’s Colony. The time of assembly at the venue will be 1830 sharp. For the convenience of members who may find it awkward getting to DOC, we have arranged transport, for which a nominal sum will be charged extra. The transport will depart from the Indira Nagar Youth Hostel at 1745 SHARP . In order to avoid embarassment, please let us know in advance if you will be availing the tpt, since seating capacity is only 50. Members are also requested to phone in confirmation of their attendance at the meeting to the following positively by 10 Sep 2000 (Those who usually do not confirm in advance are permitted to do so by 22 Sep 2000 ). By holding at least one meeting in a year at the DOC, the AFVOA will be paying tribute to it’s members from that part of the city, who have been pillars of support all through!
