(Full details of the meeting are covered in our Newsletter 2 of 2002 dated 7 Feb 2002) Seminar on Human Resources – Ex Defence officers On 15 Feb 2002, a seminar under the auspices of DG Resettlement, with the Governor of Tamil Nadu HE Shri Ramamohan Rao as the Chief guest was organized by AFVOA. Our President Maj Gen N. Viswanathan spoke on the occasion projecting our viewpoint that our defence forces personnel could be easily absorbed by the Industry. Industry should take advantage of the wealth of the experience and training of the Defence personnel, who could adapt themselves to their needs. Leading industrialists representing Ashok Leyland, RPG Industries were among the other speakers. The DGR however was more keen to promote Self Employment by Retired officers rather than Re Employment by Industry. As such he emphasised on the financial support available in this regard. New Committee takes Charge. The Executive committee meeting was held at the NCC officers’ mess on 6 March 2002 and was presided over by President Maj Gen N Viswanathan. Decisions as given in the under mentioned paragraphs were taken. Minimum Billing Charges proposed by Gymkhana club A proposal on Minimum billing charges was proposed by the club for discussion during the EGM on 22 March. It was decided to defeat the motion if it came up for Voting. (Later, on 22 March, prior to the EGM at the Club, an amicable solution was adopted in the meeting at the Area Officers’ Mess to gracefully accept Rs 200/-per month as minimum billing in lieu of Rs350/ which was proposed earlier by the Club. This proposal was unanimously adopted in the interest of maintaining the institution of the Club) Registration of AFVOA . A subcommittee consisting of Maj JL Ratan, Col RI Subramanian, Brig K Muthulaxmi and Col A. Krishnaswami. VrC, VSM** would study the various aspects involved and recommend suitable action. Allotment of Membership Numbers A proposal put forth by members for allotment of membership was accepted in principle. It was decided to allot Membership numbers to members. Representation of lady members Incorporation of at least one lady member in the executive committee as co-opted member to encourage greater participation was agreed to by the committee.
