Page 33 of 80 THE NEXT MEET IS ON 28 JULY 2012 The Annual General Meeting of the AFVOA is scheduled for Saturday, 28 Jul 2012 at the Palm Grove Sainik Institute. The get-together will start at 1030 hrs with tombola and conclude after lunch. This assembly will also be to celebrate the Raising Day of the AFVOA that falls on 7 Aug 2012. Members are requested to attend. Ladies are cordially invited to the event. Lunch tokens will be available at Rs 100 per person. Do pay by cheques in favour of Armed Forces Veterans’ Officers Association. It will help in ordering for the lunch if you will kindly confirm your attendance and requirement of lunch. Col Varadan will keep a note. Please send him a mail or call him, the earlier the better. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us serve you better. FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK Dear fellow members: Injection of new ideas and changes to our usual way of doing things is necessary to keep our Association ticking. The “Day with the Air Warriors” was a change from our conventional format for a picnic. By all accounts, that event was well received by all and there was appreciation. For the next picnic in Jan 2013 let us put on our thinking caps and organize something that will bring joy to all. I have mentioned in the past that our Association is not growing in numbers. We need more veterans joining our Association. This will be possible if we make special efforts on an individual basis. We need more members from the Navy and the Air Force. Some of our veterans have taken up jobs after retirement and they say that they find it difficult to attend our functions. I am sure they can find time on a Saturday to attend our meet once in two to three months. I urge you all to bring in new members so that we have infusion of new ideas and more energy. Last month I ran into one of my old friends who had moved over to Civvies Street when he was relatively young. I told him about our Association and suggested he join so that he can meet his old buddies. I told him that the annual subscription is just Rs 300 per annum, I added that the subscription is under review. Yes, we need to review our annual subscription and consider an amount that is commensurate with the costs that are current. Our esteemed members will agree that if we wish to expand our activities and make our meets more lively, we need to put more money on the table. It will not be prudent to keep eating into our reserves. The possibility of adopting a life-time subscription covering the veteran and the spouse is under consideration. This was put across to the assembly in the last meet and we could hear positive feedback .Patron
