PRESIDENT’S DESK Old order changes yielding place to new. The year 2010 is at its end. A festive atmosphere will soon be created all around with decorative lighting of buildings and trees commemorating the advent of Christmas and New Year. Different styles of music and inventive glittering visual displays will embrace our colleagues, their families and children on a path down memory to the X Mas and New Year Celebrations of the past. Chennai will reverberate from the middle of the month with Carnatic music concerts, dances and dramas being organized by different Gana Sabhas at attractive Auditoriums, Social Clubs and Parks in the most enjoyable manner. We wish our Veteran Members and their families a very memorable period of last few days of this year and pave way to step forward blissfully to the New Year. Patron and Executive Committee Members of the AFVOA extend to all Veterans and their families, as well as to the Serving Fraternity of the Armed Forces their best wishes for a Merry Christmas, Season’s Greetings and a Happy, Prosperous New Year 2011. It will be appropriate to make a resolve with the advent of the New Year to read and practice some of the below mentioned ‘Maxims’ which are enshrined in the Holy scriptures of different Religions. - Be rid of ‘I’ and ‘Mine’ - Be of firm resolve and steadfast mind. - Be the same in favourable and unfavourable circumstances. - Be upright in body, speech and mind - Be nonviolent in thought, word and deed - Be contented with whatever is available - Be pure internally and externally - Be friendly and compassionate - Be forgiving and impartial - Be full of devotion to the Lord - Be free from envy, perturbation and fear - Be free from self esteem and egotism - Be free from anger even on provocation - Abstain from gossip - Cultivate humility - Do not hate or slander
