AFVOA Newletters of Year 2010
Page 4 of 50 prospective candidates to face the Services Selection Boards. As of now we are proud to state that four of our trainees have become commissioned officers in the Armed Forces. Another area where we could work on is to give talks on Defence and allied matters through various NGOs. In this we could also include motivation talks to students of schools/colleges and NCC cadets. Panel discussions on TV to highlight the role of Armed Forces in War and Peace is another area which could bring us visibility. However, these discussions, if it were to reach the masses should be in regional languages as well and not just in English. Raising contributions for the families of soldiers who have fought in various theatres and laid down their lives could be another noble activity. This collection of contribution need not be restricted to public collections alone. Even the State Government could be approached for contributions and we could involve the officers of the State in events highlighting our welfare activities. It is heartening to note that our Core Group concept is well in place. Veteran officers have provided considerable assistance to brother veterans and families in distress. However we could make an attempt to try and build such Core Groups for PBOR. Our next BiMonthly Meeting will be our Annual Picnic on 24 Jan 2010. The venue is the same as last year. We are confident that all of us will join with families and friends. The rate per head is pegged at last years rate of Rs. 150/- per head inspite of rising costs. Kindly confirm attendance and strength only to Lt Col M Narayanan, our Treasurer before 15 Jan 2010. His phone no. is 2448 8546, 9884754610. Admission is by coupons and will be issued before boarding the buses only to those who have given confirmation and others may not be accommodated. Once again we wish you all the best for the forthcoming year. Anger makes dull men witty, but it keeps them poor. Elizabeth I A Special Request to Members: In case you are changing your address, phone / cell number or your e-mail ID please do let us know so that we can update your information. From the President’s Desk The Year 2009 saw change of Baton after due election of the Executive Committee in Jun 2009. Except for the President, Maj Gen K S Chattaraman, the remaining Committee Members volunteered to continue, a great service indeed. We have also additional two members elected in the Committee, a Joint Secretary and a Joint Treasurer. Their appointments will have to be ratified through amendment to the bylaws. We have seen that the AFVOA is making steady progress by inducting new Members during every BiMonthly meeting. Considering the number of Veteran Officers in Chennai, a total view can be seen from the recent release of the ‘Hello Veterans 2009’, there is large scope for the Association to grow. We definitely look forward for
