On that day the much looked forward to event of the Annual Picnic was held. The day started early for the organizers. We have to thank the Civ GT Company of Area HQ for keeping two army buses and a civil bus mustered and ready at 0500 h for the Secretary to take charge. Two of the buses were sent to the Youth Hostel at Adyar and one reached there after picking up the PA eqpt and signalers from the Area Sig Coy. We owe our sincere thanks to the Area Sig Coy for being kind enough to provide the resources. By 0700h the Youth Hostel was a hive of activity. We thank Col Raju for having been kind enough to make the Hostel premises available as a staging area. The assembled officers paid their registration fees and collected their coupons. At a signal from Brig (Mrs) K Muthulaxmi and Col A Krishnaswamy, VrC, VSM**, the Marshals, the picnickers boarded the buses and set out on a pleasant drive along the East Coast Road to the Picnic spot. We owe our thanks to Mr Thomas George for having made the Camp Gloria available to the Association for the Picnic. As soon as the veterans and families arrived at Camp Gloria hot breakfast of idlis and vadas, made on the spot by our caterer Mr Maharaj was served. By about 0930 the first game, ‘Spot the News’ was started. Those playing were given sheets of news papers and were told to spot a news head line which the comperes read out. The game was organized by Mrs Usha Sundar and Mrs Lalitha Mohandas. We owe them our thanks. Twelve individual prizes were given out to those who had the sharp eye to spot the news items. The winners were Mrs Bhuvaneswari Narayanan, Mrs Vasanthi Mathew, Mrs Chithra Srivatsan, Mr. Srivatsan, Rear Admiral S Madhavan, Miss Divyadarshini, Gp Capt BR Bapu, Maj Chandrasekar, Col Venugopal, Miss Nandini, Mrs Narayanan and Brig Mohan Thomas. A Rangoli contest was conducted by Mrs. Usha Subramanian. It was a team event. The verandah of the Centenary hall bloomed in lovely colours. The judges were Mrs. Balasubrahmanian, Mrs Madhavan and Mrs VA Subramanyam. Team A consisting of Mrs Reddy, Mrs Renuka Chandrasekar, Col Venugopal, Mrs Kala Amalaraj and Mrs Venugopal won the contest.
