With this system in place we will have amongst ourselves those of us who would rush in to attend to those who are unfortunate enough to find themselves in distress which often times arrives unannounced and unexpected. 8. In this issue you will find the outlines of the organization. We have attempted to divide our city into areas of concentration of Veterans. For each area we have suggested a coordinator who will have the primary responsibility to coordinate relief for any Veteran who may need such succor. The aim is to build the confidence in every Veteran that all the members of the AFVOA are behind them when needed and at the same time to enlist the strength of each Veteran towards the common purpose of mutual well being. 9. For us the year 2008 should certainly be the Core Group year during which we crystallize, polish and embed this system in the psyche of each Veteran so that he lives a long, active life ever ready to help a fellow Veteran fully content in the confidence that all of us are behind him when he needs us. 10. We stand now at the dawn of the year 2008, a year of promises when the nation is likely to take its initial steps into the unfolding future. Great growths in economics and in the nation’s standards of living are foreseen. 2. Our own association is boldly stepping into the 14 th year of its existence and is growing from strength to strength. In the year gone by 19 new members joined our fold. Our hope is that more new members will join us in the coming year. 3. Likewise the AFVOA had continued its traditions of reaching out to the station, playing as positive a role as possible in the military-civil life of Chennai. We saluted our brethren in uniform and they in their turn had looked at us with admiration for being an assemblage of elders who have walked the route before them. They watched our activities with deference and we as ever continued to wish them the very best in all their endeavours. 4. This is more so when we look at one of the most prestigious institutions of the Army located in our station, the Officers Training Academy. This impressive establishment which is a cradle for officerhood has produced many of the most valiant and decorated officers of the Indian Army. The officers commissioned from OTA have proved their mettle in every sphere and won kudos because of their bravery, sacrifices and ability. Our own association has many from among the alumni of this great institution. They have an unrequited love for their alma mater and would like to be a closer part of the activities there, particularly at their Passing-out Parades. The coming year could well see a greater interaction between them and their first
