Mahatma Gandhi RESETTLEMENT – INTROSPECTION By Col J Francis, MLI Introduction For a very good reason, there is a separate Directorate General of Resettlement in the Armed Forces. There is no other major orgnisation, which has such an arrangement. Resettlement is a vast subject and involves both Centre and State governments. It is not only finding a second job for the retiring fraternity of the Armed Forces but much more than that. It is about settling down in civil society in which an ex-service person is going to live for the rest of his / her life. Job or running an enterprise is only a part of it. Living environment within the Armed Forces is different from the rest of the society. In brief, it can be said that life in the Armed Forces is much more secured and well organised. Lulled by such an environment, some members of the Armed Forces do not care to constantly watch and monitor the changes that are taking place in the civil society. Therefore, when one retires from the Services, they realise that their pensionary benefits and savings are not enough
