AFVOA Newletters of Year 2006
Page 60 of 77 ECHS Scheme. A letter has been received from HQ ECHS by all Polyclinics intimating the list of defaulters who had attempted to defeat/cheat the system by fraudulent and incorrect presentation of cases to take advantage of the treatment facilities. This revelation is a matter of shame. Action against a few has already been taken by removing them from the Scheme. Show cause notices have also been issued to the remaining. We are fortunate and proud that the list does not include any member from the Southern Region. Members are advised to bring to notice of the concerned authorities of any such irregularity. Personal experience of Partha. Wg Cdr K Parthasarathy, VSM who recently underwent a bye pass operation at the Madras Medical Mission (MMM) has recounted his experiences with the ECHS Avadi, MH St Thomas Mount and MMM for the benefit of our readers. We reproduce his e-mail below for the information of all our members:- My dear Friends, “I am very sorry for this belated mail to you all. I could get access to the computer only today. My speech has improved but not sufficient enough to hear on a telephone clearly. it is a matter of another 10 days. My wife and daughters join me to thank each one of you for your expression of good wishes, goodwill towards us and your best wishes for my early recovery while I was in the hospital. The concern reflected in your calls and the love and affection showered by you all were a great moral support to all of us. We salute each one of you. I take this opportunity to share my experience which took me to madras medical mission hospital without any discomfort or uneasiness in the chest area. In the first week of July, I felt at about 2 a.m. that my blood pressure could be high as my eyes had very mild burning feeling. My BP was 187/111. I took one baby aspirin and was hoping BP would come down. It came to 160/ 100 after half an hour. Next day morning my BP was normal. I took Echo cardiogram. Nothing abnormal noticed. But the ECG taken at that time showed abnormality. The doctor changed the medicine and I was attending to my work as usual. Everyday I was going by car 40 km one way to attend to work. A week later again at 02 am my BP showed 181/110. I took again a baby aspirin I was normal next morning. I went to ECHS. The lady doctor took an ECG. She did not notice anything abnormal. But she took my words about my BP seriously and referred me to MH specialist This was on 14 Jul. Col Teja in MH after having heard my narration permitted me to undergo 64 slices scan, if need be, permitted me to under go Angio and stenting. I was fine and I was moving about on my own. On 17 Jul, 64 slices scan was done. Next day, i.e. on 18 th I was totally disappointed to see the results of 64 scan. I had 9 blocks varying from 20% to 90% on three arteries. On 19 th I took the results to Madras Medical Mission for consultation only. I was feeling fine. But the cardiologist there on seeing the 64 slices scan, sent me to the emergency coronary unit and decided to carry out Angio the next day. Even in the ECU I did not feel any uneasiness. On 20 th Angio was carried out. It showed 9 blocks but two blocks 99% on arteries worse than 64 slices scan result. I was taking on the advice of my doctor friend every day a baby aspirin 81mg for more than a year. That might have kept the blood light and an heart attack was prevented. If I had delayed my visit to MMM, I would have encountered a midnight heart attack in the next few days according to the cardiologist. I had permission from MH for Angio and stenting but not operation. On 20 th the hospital sent the Angio result to ECHS, advised operation for triple vessel revascularisation (CABG) on 24 th and approximate expenses Rs.1.63 lacs for 1+9 days. I received permission for operation on 22 nd . The ECHS had to coordinate with MH and the cardiac specialist Col Rao in Hyderabad. The ECHS Avadi, MH Chennai and the cardiac specialist rose to the occasion and their responses were very prompt. Since I had to stay in the hospital for angio and voice restoration, totally I stayed for17
