Page 38 of 77 4. Recently, a member of our Editorial Team encountered a group of Senior Citizens at the Elliot’s Beach. They were all parents of NRI children, settled/working in the Silicon Valley, California, USA. The parents had gathered to exchange news/e-mails received from their children. One of them casually mentioned the typical telephone calls/e-mails that he receives every time. His narration was humorous, but all the same realistic. He told the gathering – Look, we all are “Hello Daddy, Hello Mummy, How are you, Look after yourselves, Shall I send you some dollars and so on” – a variety. All of us miss our children and our grand children. What a pity! 5. He suddenly realized how well, the concept of our “Core Group” would fir the hapless parents of the NRI children. So he quickly rattled out our achievements in the AFVOA and. Lo and behold the group’s attention got diverted and our Core Group concept was for all praise. Well, there are takers for our scheme outside our Association too! Don’t you think we are doing fine? 6. The Rotary International has adopted the theme, “Lead the way” for the year 2006– 07. With our new Executive Committee in place, the Editorial Team expects every member to chip in to ensure progress. We too should lead the way in all respects. Greetings to all the elders, colleagues and ladies. We, the newly constituted committee, thank you - one and all for the confidence reposed in us. We also are fortunate and privileged to continue the last team’s track record, although most of us were also part of the last committee; so to say, now we are the “Old wine in a new bottle! 8. Based on our exposure and experience so far with the AFVOA & its environment, we shall strive to live up to your expectations, in every possible way. We have set ourselves the following objectives to be pursued during our incumbency:- (a) To contribute to the “Quality of Life” of all members and their families by enriching the purpose and contents of our periodic meetings, with useful and enjoyable interaction. (b) To expand the membership in general, with special emphasis on increasing the number of Naval and Air Force Veterans . (c) To ensure the publication of “Suryasthaman” as early as possible. (d) To ensure the formation and networking of the “ Core Groups.” (e) To pursue the case of exemption of property tax vigorously with the Tamil Nadu State Government through the Fmn HQ.
