To illustrate, the clue was a picture of a snake + - - r. The answer was the Hindi word for snake “NAG” to which one had to add “PUR”, to get “NAGPUR”. This proved to be the toughest of the written games. Nevertheless Mrs. Chitkala Govindaswamy, Col A Krishnaswami, Maj CA Parthasarathy and Air Mshl S Raghavan came out as worthy winners. 22. As soon as this game concluded, Mrs Lalitha Mohandas was requested to render a song. Her rendition of “India, this is India”- a song sung with patriotic fervor struck the right chord. On popular request, she sang the ever favourite “Hari Om Hari”, where the entire gathering joined her by clapping. Major Parthasarathy then entertained the gathering with his Mouth Organ. He played two old evergreen melodies which enthralled the members. Thereafter, Mrs Raji Raghavachari ,Mrs Chitkala Govindaswamy, Lt Col R. Ramachandran, Maj Gen N Viswanathan and Brig Balachandran, regaled the gathering with numerous jokes. 23. Lunch was announced. The members were tired due to playing the strenuous games, with the result that the puris, pulav, gobi mutter, dal makhani and the other tasty dishes spread out, vanished in minutes. And to round up all this was the delicious hot jelabis, with cold ice cream topped with fruit salad. The meal was so good and filling, that it was difficult to keep the eyes open and move in for the next item of the programme which was the Tombola. 24. The first game of Tombola, was played with cards given out to the members gratis. The prizes were selected gifts which the organizing Committee had specially chosen. Thereafter two more houses were conducted by Smt Rajeswari Raghavachari and Brig VA Subramanyam. The winners of the full houses in the three games played were Capt CR Neelakantan, Wg Cdr K Rajagopal and Lt Col T Janardhan Reddy. 25. Once the Tombola was over, the prize distribution ceremony was held. The Secretary requested Mrs Sudha Raghavan to give away the prizes to the winners of the games as well as those who helped in conducting them. Later Mrs. Govindaswamy gave away Souvenirs, which were provided by the kind courtesy of Col R Subramanian, of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Nobody left the picnic disappointed - everybody got something or the other - in fact a few needed extra bags to cart their gifts home!!! 26. The President thanked the Organising committee profusely and thanked the veterans and their families for their wholehearted support without which the picnic would not have been a success.
