Vice Admiral Punitha Arora, AVSM is the first Lady Officer to hold the prestigious post of Director General Medical Services (Navy). Prior to this appointment she was the Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in the rank of Lt Gen, the senior most rank ever held by a Lady Officer. 29. Days to remember . In a recent judgment, the Delhi High Court has ruled that a person suffering from heart ailment is entitled to the benefits of the Disabilities Act for the purpose of employment in the Govt. The news appeared in the columns of the “Times of India”. 31. Relief to Mai Gens and their equivalent. The Punjab & Haryana High Court has granted relief to all Maj Gens and their equivalent who had retired prior to Jan 1996 and were drawing pension less than that of Brig and their equivalent. As many as 19 Maj Gens and one AVM who had retired from Service between 1978 and 1996 had sought legal recourse for the redress of their grievances. The High Court orders, according to legal experts, would apply to Maj Gens and their equivalents concerned all across the country. This news item had appeared in “The Tribune”. With not much work in hand I was getting bored. I sought reemployment and that was over in 1991. My wife and myself took a holiday trip to the US. That too was over in 6 months!
