Page 73 of 170 The month of August heralds the beginning of a long list of pujas and festivals commencing Adi Puram and going on Varamahalakshmi puja, Raksha Bandhan, Upakarma, Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Vinayaka Chaturthi. In addition, the Nation will celebrate the 56 th Independence Day, and our own Association will be completing 9 years of its existence and move into double figures. In our endeavour to highlight a few episodes of military history we shall be talking to you about two heroes who were awarded the highest gallantry awards for their valour in the 1965 Operations. To continue with our attempt to include the entire household, we are including a couple of more recipes as also a few tips which some of you may already be aware of, and useful to the rest of us. Registration of AFVOA We are glad to inform all members that the relevant papers for the registration of AFVOA under the Tamil Nadu Societies Act 1975 have since been filed. Lack of an idea is an obstacle. ~ Ken Hakuta The last meeting was held at the Youth Hostel in Indira Nagar on the 06 th of July. The members assembled well in time, and once the registration formalities were completed under the superintendence of Capt (IN) H Balakrishnan and Lt Col M Narayanan, the members spent quality time meeting friends and exchanging notes. AVM Krishnaswamy, the President called the meeting to order. As is customary, the members observed stood in silence for a minute in memory of those of our fraternity who had passed away since the last meeting. The AFVOA has been felicitating those of our fraternity who are wiser, greyer, and older in the past. More than the nostalgia that is evoked in our hearts at the sight of these octogenarians, is an overwhelming sense of veneration, for many of them have done much, much, more in life than just growing old. This last occasion was one such, with the AFVOA being honoured by being able to host four worthy elders. Three of these are members of the AFVOA, and not surprisingly, are among those who are the more committed to the goal of ensuring that the AFVOA and what it is intended to stand for are not merely grounded on shifting sands.
