Meeting Gone By - “An Impression” by Wg Cdr Ravi Mani The rule in carving holds good as to criticism; never cut with a knife what you can cut with a spoon. ~ Charles (Buxton ~ (1823 – 1871: British Author) 7. The first meeting for the year 2003 assembled on 23 rd Feb 2003 at the Defence Officer’s Colony (DOC) Club. As mentioned in the last newsletter, the change in venue was brought about by our regular meeting place being unavailable for the day. The change was a pleasant one, and while in no way detracting from the beauty and utility of our usual haunt, it enabled all of us to savour the serene atmosphere of the lawns of the DOC Club, courtesy of Maj Gen CT Chari, who had added to the value of his offer of the premises by taking on the burden of overseeing all the arrangements including seating, PA system and the side walls that lent privacy to the gathering. The completeness of Gen Chari’s superintendence was such that Cols Krishnaswami and Viswanathan had very little to do when the veteran infantryman and the engineer went to the DOC Club earlier in the day on to “clear the minefield” and study the “lay of the land”. The initiative and affection manifest in Gen Chari’s contribution to the success of the evening was matched by that of other officers, who took upon themselves the most welcome initiative of arranging two 12-seater vans from a private operator and of drumming up the requisite numbers of “ADYARITES” among our fraternity
