The President then requested the new members to introduce themselves. a) Lt Col GT Thampi 1/3 GR, a veteran of WW II vintage, with looks belying his octogenarian status came up and introduced himself, mentioning that he had recently moved to Kotturpuram from Thiruvananthapuram. He can be contacted at 447 0254. b) Wg Cdr ST Srinivas, a member who joined us during the last meeting, but missed introducing himself by a whisker, then came up and introduced himself. He is an AE (L) officer presently working with HCL Cisco. Mrs Rekha Srinivas is a trained and experienced PG teacher. Wg Cdr Srinivas can be contacted at 442 5514. c) Next to introduce herself was Mrs Padmashri Naidu, wife of the late Col SR Naidu. 9. After the introductions, a few points were brought out for the information of the members which is given later in this Newsletter. 10. Tombola was welcomed by the large gathering and two rounds of the. game were played. Brig VA Subramanyam conducted the two houses. Besides attractive prizes, there was a Snowball of Rs 1300 in 58 counts, which went a-begging. Smt Sulochana Krishnaswami and Smt Shobhana Narayanan won the houses. 11. Col A Krishnaswami then read out the contents of a letter written to the AFVOA by Maj Gen V Rangaswamy, Vr C**, AMC, an octogenarian honoured by the AFVOA. Gen Rangaswamy mentioned his great pleasure in the pursuit of a rather sophisticated hobby, which was of signal utility in times of distress at large - that of being a “ Radio Ham ”. He invited members who were radio hams to contact him at call sign “ VU2EVR ”. He requested those interested in becoming radio hams to contact him on telephone No. 234 3071 or to contact the Madras Amateur Radio Society (MARS) in Ashok Nagar. 13. Cdr S Mohan mentioned that appealing and artistic greeting cards suitable for any festive occasion based on paintings by BLIND artists were available for sale at a very nominal price of Rs 95 for a set of 10. He requested that members kindly contact him at 98400 34235 for their requirements. 14. Members may enrol themselves in the Palm Grove Health card scheme. Please approach the MH for further details. 15. In the last Newsletter it was mentioned that Maj Gen Karthikeyan had been nominated by the Government of Tamil Nadu, to serve as non-official member in the Committee for the Administration of the Amalgamated Funds. It may be noted that AVM V Krishnaswamy, VSM , has also been nominated to that Committee. 16. Please note that retired officers (or their living spouse) are required to file their ‘Life Certificates with the respective banks, where they are receiving their pension. This is a mandatory requirement, and is to he done during November every year. Grants from Army Officers Benevolent Fund (AOBF). 17. It is once again brought to the notice of all Army officers, that all retired officers are eligible to receive the Platinum Grant on attaining the age of 75 years. However, in cast the retired officer passes away before attaining the age of 75 years, his NOK is entitled to receive the Demise Grant. Payments will be made on the, following sliding scale based on number of years of Commissioned Service. Commissioned Service as an Officer Amount in Rupees
