The President also requested volunteers from among the medical officers among the membership to train medical assistants for a Charitable Hospital at Chromepet under the aegis of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and the Dayanand Saraswati Order. Volunteers are to contact Dr Sharma, through Surg Capt CV Natarajan. 12. An Association of Retired Armed Forces Medical, Dental and Veterinary Officers has been formed known as RAMDVOA . Brig GV Ramani, VSM is the President and Surg Capt CV Natarajan is the secretary. For further details, interested members may please contact Surg Capt CV Natarajan, at 447 0551. 13. Wg Cdr CS Krsnamurthy informed the gathering about a move by certain branches of the State Bank of India, particularly those that were designated as Personal Banking (PB) branches, to offload pension accounts of retired personnel if they did not maintain a minimum deposit of at least Rs 50,000/- at all times. He mentioned, in particular, the SBI Branch at KK Nagar. Since this information was corroborated on the basis of recent newspaper letters to the editor and by Wg Cdr Ravi Mani, it needs to be taken up through Service Welfare Channels to ensure that veterans are not put to hardship. 14. Maj Gen Govindaswamy informed the members that, due to an anomalous pricing structure of POL at Services fuel dispensing outlets, it had now come about that petrol was costlier, if bought from a service POL stand, than outside, which needed to be addressed, as there certainly is an attraction for retired personnel to continue obtaining fuel from services outlets on account of the unadulterated purity of such fuel. 15. After the longish spell taken up by the foregoing part of the proceedings, it was time for the much awaited game of Tambola. Smt Rajam Rao – our Patron’s wife - bagged the full house, whereas the other prizes were taken by Smt Chitkala Govindaswamy, Capt CR Neelakantan and Col I Jayakaran. Many members felt that there should be at least two rounds of Tambola. The committee has taken note of the feelings of members, and will try and work out a new format by which the tickets for the first game will be sold apace, along with the arrival and registration of members at each meeting. This will also enable members to catch up with each other, so vital for us at this time in our lives. Dinner was also served alongside the Tambola, for those who wished to make it home a little earlier. The dinner was catered to in the usual impeccable style, prompting a few to wonder if Col Viswanathan and Maharaj might not be missing a clue by not teaming up professionally! New Members You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. ~ Dale Carnegie 16. Two new members who joined the AFVOA at the Meeting were introduced. Maj ASN Porres, Arty, and Col Vinod Kumar, Sigs, were introduced. A third new member also signed up on the 11 th , but just missed the introductions by a whisker-this was Wg Cdr ST Srinivas, AE (L). We look forward to his being introduced at the next meeting. Next Meeting Time invested in improving ourselves cuts down on time wasted in disapproving of others. ~ Anonymous
