Page 31 of 52 4. Our last meeting was held on Sunday the 19 th Aug 2001. Though the meeting was at our usual venue – Youth Hostel, Indira Nagar – there was a difference. This time the meeting was held in the daylight hours, as the meeting commenced at 1000 hrs hours in the morning. Another aspect worth mentioning was that the meeting commenced with the eagerly awaited seminar on actions to be taken after the demise of any pensioner. 5. The seminar was to be addressed by persons by knowledgeable persons from the banking, Insurance, legal and postal sectors. Originally the seminar was planned for the benefit of the ladies. However, the gentlemen were also invited and they attended the same in larger numbers. The persons who addressed the gathering were:  Ms Madhavi Menon, Manager, Syndicate Bank, Adyar;  Shri K Thyagarajan, Consultant, Life insurance;  Shri A K Raman Malli, Consultant, General Insurance;  Brig K Muthulaxmi, Advocate, Legal Matters; and  Maj U Vardarajulu, APS, Postal Services. 6. As each of the speakers warmed up to their topics, members raised a number of doubts, which were then clarified by the learned speakers. The sessions became more interactive than thought of, with the result, that the programme went on for more than the scheduled duration, thus eating up into our planned Tambola, which had perforce to be called off. Maj Gen RPRC Naidu - the President then thanked the speakers, and mentioned that the gist of their talks will be brought out as a booklet. 7. As a gesture of goodwill and enhancing the camaraderie, it was decided that we honour ail the veteran elderly officers who are past the age of eighty five years of age. Accordingly four elders were invited to attend this function. However, Rear Admiral K R Nair, PVSM, was the only officer who was able to grace the occasion. He was honoured with the traditional ‘ponnadai’. 8. To increase the interaction with the local Armed Forces organisations, we had invited representatives from the Navy Foundation and the Air Force Association. In order to enhance the cooperation between the serving and retired officers, it is planned to invite serving officers from the local Service formations/units located in Chennai. This will also help in updating our knowledge regarding current orders and instructions. Scope of the Newsletter 9. It has been decided to increase the scope of the Newsletter to encompass more information for the benefit of retired personnel. The proposed topics would include, benefits extended by various governments for the retired personnel. A few examples are the increase in the financial assistance for different treatments such as heart related diseases, renal transplants etc. In order to provide a platform for the members and their families to bring out their talents in writing, painting, culinary art, health and fitness and such other topics, as well as letters to the Editor, and contributions are requested from each and every member. Further, matters regarding matrimonial alliances, and advertisements are welcome. We also request our members who are in business to kindly sponsor the issues of the Newsletter. The names of the sponsor shall be gratefully acknowledged in the issue itself. 10. As a beginning a feature “For your Information please” is being included in this issue.
