Brig AD Venkateswaran, EME We organized a coach (kind courtesy Lt Venkataraman) to transport to ferry the bespectacled veterans and their families from Adyar to the DOC. The DOC element of the AFVOA comprising of Maj Gen Govindaswamy had done us proud by getting colourful sidewalls put up as well as organizing a PA system. An ingenious mind game was conducted by Mrs. Chitkala Govindaswamy wherein we were asked to identify formation insignia projected on a screen using an OHP. There were two rounds of Tombola – in which an enterprising non-member not only won a prize but also collected the cash and vanished! However, the snowball of Rs 800.00 continues to elude people! Some fauji residents of the DOC took the opportunity of coming to the meeting since it was, so to say, in their backyard. Among the new members was AVM V Krishnaswami VSM, who spends his post retirement rather more usefully than most of his vintage as an advisor to a trust caring for special children. He is also the President of the TN Chapter of the Air Force Association. The Air Marshall was thoughtful enough to present the AFVOA two copies of the 4 th edition of the AFA (TN Chapter)’s pamphlet on benefits available to veteran air force personnel, including some very useful checklists. Interested veterans who have not already obtained a copy are requested to contact Air Marshal V Krishnaswami VSM, at 234 4434 (R)/ 828 1042 (O) or Gp Capt P Kunhiraman at 234 4588(R). Copies are priced at a reasonably and are probably worth their weight in gold! The meeting got everyone so engrossed that we carried on well beyond our usual time. Dinner by Rajendra Maharaj was appreciated, particularly by those who were coming under his spell for the first time. The jalebis and malpuas were attacked with all gusto and vigour that only faujis can muster. It was, a very pleasant outing, and well, worth the effort made to conduct a meeting at the DOC. The AFVOA Directory project This project appeared to be going the same way as the Arjun MBT/LCA project. Luckily a silver lining in the dark clouds has pepped up our morale. Col R.I. Subramanian, through his good offices has been able to locate a reasonable printer, who would be able to deliver the goods, within our budget. Notwithstanding this, it is high time, that we the members chip in whole-heartedly. All of us should contribute the value of at least one full-page advertisement – that is Rs 1000.00
