At the outset, please accept my grateful thanks for having called Brig Subramanyam up when an insertion was given in the Hindu, regarding our last meeting during March/May. 2. It will be appropriate to mention a few words about this Organization. The Association was started a few years ago - more precisely during August 1994, by a band of officers staying in and around Adyar. They decided to get together and meet all such like-minded officers of the three services, who were living in the vicinity. The main idea, being - to meet, exchange ideas and share views on a variety of matters. Meetings were held once in two months. The membership gathered momentum, and officers staying all over this metropolis, expressed their willingness to join - as it helped them renew old friends/acquaintances, make new ones and re-live experiences and meet all those people who shared with them a certain way of life . I may mention that at the moment we have over 150 members on the rolls. 3. The activities have increased from just meeting each other, to inviting speakers to talk on subjects of mutual interest, going out on picnics to nearby places, motivating/organising seminars/training sessions for those youngsters who are keen to join the Armed Forces; as well as rendering humanitarian aid as and when possible to those in need. And in times to come, we do hope to add on to these activities - with your valuable suggestions. 4. We are glad to learn that YOU had the proud privilege of serving in the commissioned ranks of the Defence Services. As such, we welcome you to join the Association and allow us to benefit from your experiences. 5. Our next meeting is scheduled to be held as per details given below: Day and Date - Sunday the 23 rd Jul 2000 Venue - Youth Hostel Timings - 1830 hours 6. It is customary for all members to contribute towards defraying part of the expenses for the refreshments that are served during such functions. Additionally, a nominal amount of Rs 300.00 only is collected towards subscription for a year. This amount may be paid by means of a local cheque drawn in favour of “EXSOA”. 7. I look forward to your joining the Association, so that all of us may derive the benefit of your rich experience. It will be very much appreciated, if you could kindly intimate telephonically the number of family members attending the meeting.
