Section 3 – Value Add / Special Tasks CV 2 No. 02 / 2021 Page 31 of 332 Swarnim Vijay Mashal at Chennai – Jul 22, 2021 The Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi lit the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal at the National War Memorial on 16 Dec 2020 to mark the beginning of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations. The Mashaal began its journey on four cardinal directions across the Nation when it will visit every home of a PVC and MVC Awardee. The Mashaal was received in Chennai by the Governor of Tamil Nadu and the GOC, Dakshin Bharat Area at a ceremonial event organized at the Palmgrove Institute. The DBA organized a stupendous display of events to honour the greatest military victory of recent times on 16 Dec 1971. The Governor honoured the only MVC Awardee of the 1971 War in Tamil Nadu, Commodore KP Gopal Rao MVC VSM who led Operation Trident that almost destroyed Karachi Harbour. Colonel A Krishnaswami VrC VSM & Bar, founder member of the AFVOA, who won the gallantry award in East Pakistan was also honoured. Jai Hind!
