It was almost as if the heart and lungs were declared a separate entity out of the human body. The region behaved as if it was still single and so, movements in and out of both the sides were for accepted for educational and local commercial activities. Hence when the Bengali refugees came into India in 1970 - 71 large numbers, they were accommodated without a murmur but the huge transfer of populace brought in many a problems, including that of serious epidemics. The Indian Government had to intervene finally to house them back in their own country which resulted in the Indo- Pak conflict in 1971. It is a chapter in the history as to why the local East Bengalis chose to leave their own country and take refuge in our country.
