He graduated from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune in May 1982 and was commissioned in the IAF in the Fighter Stream on 28 May 1983. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot. He is an alumni of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the National Defence College, New Delhi. He superannuated from the IAF on 30 Sep 20. His last appointment was as Air Officer Commanding, HQ Maritime Air Operations (AOC HQ MAO) at Mumbai. He has previously held important Command and Staff appointments such as AOC, Adv HQ Western Air Command (Jaipur), Commandant Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment(ASTE) Bangalore, Deputy Commandant, Air Force Academy, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Bidar and Deputy Technical Manager(Air) in the Acquisition Wing of the Defence Procurement Board (MoD). He has earlier commanded a Fighter squadron and was also the Team Leader of the IAF’s Hawk Aircraft Project Team in the UK. He has close to 3800 flying hours on fighters, transport, helicopters and trainers. His educational qualifications are BSc (Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi), MSc (Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University) and M.Phil (Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University). For his outstanding services, he has been commended by the Chief of the Air Staff and so also by the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief. His fields of expertise and interest include Management of New Fleet induction, Training, Leadership Studies, Conflict Management, Mediation, HR Development and Anger Elimination. He is married to Mrs Reeta Hora who is currently a homemaker. They are blessed with two sons, Rajit and Ratul.
