Strength of Members - AFVOA We crossed the double century mark by August 2001. The breakdown was - Army 216, Navy 12 and Air Force 38, making a Total of 256 Members on rolls. Maj Gen RPRC Naidu - the President said he considered it as an honour to be part of this expansion as during the period Jan to Aug 2001 as many as 22 officers joined the fraternity. He lauded the Service Officers community for the impressionable trait of Positive Attitude that we all possess. It makes us constantly endeavour to achieve results and resolve problems. If numerical value is given to the word ATTITUDE by its alphabetical order (1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100) it implies that if our attitude is correct, cent per cent results are assured. Our next meeting on 10 June 2001 enabled us to identify two of our budding literary veterans. Lt Col CR Sundar, channelized his talent and translated the Epic THIRUKURAL into English and came out with an attractive book - BOOK DIVINE -Thirukural published by Om Vignesh Publishers. The effort of Sundar was commendable and praise worthy. Mrs Jamuna Krishnaraj daughter of Sqn Ldr H Ramakrishnan came out with a unique production of a booklet titled SHABDA SANGAM, a dictionary of words of common origin in Hindi and Tamil with English meanings. We bade a final Good bye to our respected and illustrious member Lt Gen IS Gill, PVSM, MC by observing a minutes silence, in his memory. The General had passed away on 31 May 2001. The Members of the AFVOA will remember this dauntless soldier for his service to the nation as the DMO during our crucial battle in 1971 and his undying spirit of adventure. Even at the ripe old age of 75 years, he took part in the Para jumping events for the benefit of the Cadets of the OTA Madras. He was most helpful to the Service fraternity to provide admission to the Schools and colleges managed by the Punjab Association in which he was a Trustee.
