Another fall out of these events was the realization that we must improve our own capability to design and build our own systems. This led us to plan a new facility to develop and manufacture state-of-the-art equipment. That is the origin of Bharat Electronics Unit in Ghaziabad, also called BEL-GAD. Smt. Indira Gandhi inaugurated the new factory. Our indigenous capability in this field also got a quantum jump as a result. I had the honour to be part of the BEL-GAD from its inception until I retired. ***
