Page 70 of 80 from the Brigade of the Guards was the lone JCO veteran who had partaken in the Bangladesh Operations. Two former Corps Commanders viz Generals BS Jaswal and Gurung were also present. The present GOC Lt Gen CA Krishnan, 4 GR made much of us in his speeches and honoured all of us by elaborating our contribution and presented us with the token gifts, amidst applauses. We received a standing ovation, when we were on the dais. The poignant wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial and subsequent Group photographs and the conducted visit of the imposing main Corps HQ Complex followed by general briefing of the layout of the defences of the formations in the Ops Room were very impressive. After watching the satellite images and close up views of the own and enemy locations on the big screen and the ability to speak to the forward posts to get the latest information, we were thrilled to see the progress of technology. Gone are the days of putting coloured pins and china graph pencil markings and wooden pointers for indication. We have come a long way. The Golden Jubilee Officer’s Mess was inaugurated and the décor of the mess complex was very attractive and tastefully done. The functions included the specially prepared CD presentation of the achievements of the Gajraj Corps by tracing out its glorious history and its recent accomplishments. The Golden Jubilee Mess is well designed and well maintained. We carried very pleasant memories of our hectic trip and the visit to the Gajraj Corps. The camaraderie in the Armed Forces is unique. We owe a debt of gratitude to the present lot of serving officers who showed respect and regard to ensure our comfort. Like the majestic Brahmaputra, let the spirit of camaraderie flow for ever.
