Page 65 of 80 THE NEXT MEET IS ON 25 NOV 2012 The next meeting of the AFVOA is scheduled for Sunday, 25 Nov 2012 at the Palm Grove Sainik Institute. Please note that the meeting is on Sunday and not on Saturday. The get-together will start at 1030 hrs with tombola and conclude after lunch. Members are requested to attend the meet. Ladies are cordially invited to the event. Lunch tokens will be available at Rs 75 per person. Do pay by cheques in favour of Armed Forces Veterans Officers’ Association. It will help in ordering for the lunch if you will kindly confirm your attendance and requirement of lunch. Col RS Varadan will be compiling the lunch requirements. You may send him an email. Those of you, who prefer to call him, please do so and give your confirmation. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us serve you better. FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK Dear Members: In the last .meet we changed the seating arrangements and I found more interaction between the members and their ladies. Brig VA Subramanyam and Ms Lalitha Mohandas were easily ‘approachable’ and the ‘weak-kneed’ veterans did not have to climb the stairs or strain their backs reaching out for the tickets. As usual, tombola is the primary attraction (or is it the food?) in our meets. Between the sale of the first and the last ticket for the first house, it takes 30 minutes. This annoys some members who come in time to get on with the morning’s first house. I have been requested to start the first house at 1045 sharp. I request, in turn, VAS and Lalitha to do so at our next meet. Yes, this is a good time to thank both VAS and Lalitha for the service they render to the Association by managing the tombola regularly. We need to give them a big hand in our next meet after the tombola session is over. Brig Muthulaxmi, please remind me if I forget. Our members have been asking me why the proposal for one time subscription is not approved and implemented. They suggest a revisit and see what is possible. Our elders have been more than positive in their support for the scheme. I am meeting some of our past presidents and making efforts to see what can be done in the matter. Till we arrive at a consensus, we need to wait for some more time. The Picnic is round the corner. AOC Avadi has very kindly extended an invitation for us to have the picnic at the Officers’ Mess at AF Stn, Avadi. We request your views on whether we accept the AOC’s invitation. We have two Sundays in the latter half of Jan 2013 when we can schedule the event. This time we plan to make our picnic a memorable one. I request some of our members who work with various enterprises to consider the possibility of sponsoring the prizes. May be a couple of gift hampers, a box of music CDs, a basket of flowers, a few good books, candy or goodies for the kids, the list is endless. If you wish to donate something that you have at home that can be given away as a prize, please donate the item to the Association. We will have a Chief Coordinator (CC) for the tombola, games and fun activities, a CC for the music and
